Complete Home Renovation: Planning and Budget Guide
Complete Home Renovation Guide
A complete home renovation project is a complex process that, when not properly planned, leads to budget overruns and extended timelines. For a successful renovation, the principle of "plan first, then apply" is indispensable.
Prioritisation
Rather than making all changes at once, structural and essential works (plumbing, electrics, insulation) should be prioritised. Aesthetic works (paint, flooring, accessories) should be left to the final stage.
Budget Planning
Set aside 10–15% of the total budget for unforeseen expenses. Get material and labour quotes from at least three different companies. The cheapest quote is not always the best option.
Time Planning
The complete renovation of a 50 m² flat takes on average 6–12 weeks. Set the order of work correctly: first rough construction, then fine works, and lastly paint and floor covering.
Permits and Building Management
Before renovation, notify the building management and, if necessary, the municipality. An engineering report is mandatory for changes that require structural intervention.
