How to Create a Gallery Wall
Gallery Wall Creation Guide
A gallery wall is the display of multiple frames, photographs and artworks in an aesthetic arrangement on a single wall. It is one of the most popular DIY decoration projects of recent years.
Composition Types
Grid layout: Equally spaced frames of the same size. A minimalist, orderly look.
Free layout: Asymmetrical placement in different sizes and shapes. A bohemian, creative feel.
Symmetrical layout: Mirror-image placement around a central axis. Classic and balanced.
The Paper Template Technique
Draw the outline of each frame on paper. Before hanging the frames, place the templates on the wall with tape to test the composition. Change the placement until you are satisfied.
Frame Choice
Harmony is achieved when all frames are the same colour or the same material. Even in different sizes, unity of colour holds the composition together.
The Spacing Rule
A gap of 5–8 cm between frames provides ideal visual balance. Very wide gaps lead to a fragmented look, and very narrow gaps to clutter.
