Japandi Style Decoration: Minimalism and Wabi-Sabi
Japandi: A Blend of Two Cultures
Born from the fusion of the Japanese "Wabi-Sabi" philosophy (the beauty of imperfection) and the Scandinavian "Hygge" (cosy comfort) understanding, the Japandi style has become a global decoration trend since the 2020s.
Core Principles
- Simple and functional furniture
- Natural materials (wood, stone, linen)
- A neutral colour palette (cream, grey, white, dark brown)
- Avoiding unnecessary ornamentation
- Maximising natural light
Colour Palette
Japandi's colour world is extremely restricted. White, off-white, sand beige, dark brown and matte black play the lead roles. Only a single natural tone (ochre, terracotta or light green) is used as an accent.
Wall Covering Choice
Plain matte-painted or finely textured surfaces are suitable for the Japandi style. Concrete-look spatula paint or natural fibre wallpapers fit this style perfectly.
