The Relationship of Floor Covering with Ceiling and Wall
Floor-Wall-Ceiling Harmony
When the three main surfaces of an interior — floor, wall and ceiling — are in harmony with each other, the space naturally gains an aesthetic unity.
Dark Floor + Light Wall
This is the most common and safe combination. A dark parquet or laminate floor does not create visual imbalance against light-toned walls.
Light Floor + Mid-Tone Wall
A light oak or white floor, combined with mid-tone grey or blue walls, gives a result that is both airy and full of character.
Ceiling Colour
The ceiling is usually chosen one or two tones lighter than the wall colour. However, painting the ceiling the same as or darker than the wall creates an enclosing, intimate feel that wraps the space.
The Texture Layer
When one of the three surfaces has texture, the other two should be left plain. A texture-plus-texture combination visually overwhelms the space.
