The Effect of Rug Choice on Decoration
Rug Choice: An Overlooked Decoration Power
A rug acts as a room's floor anchor; it is the binding element that brings all furniture and colour choices together. The right rug choice elevates a space, while the wrong choice scatters the design.
Choosing the Size
The most common mistake is choosing a rug too small. At least the front legs of the furniture in the seating group should be on the rug. 160×230 cm is the minimum size for a small living room.
Colour Strategy
The rug should either be the darkest tone of the room or carry a binding neutral colour. In an already busy room, a plain tone rather than a patterned rug is recommended.
Material Choice
Wool rugs are durable and soft; they show natural resistance to dirt. Viscose rugs offer a luxurious look but are hard to care for. Polypropylene synthetic-fibre rugs are preferred in damp areas.
Textural Layers
To add texture over a plain floor, combinations of short pile, long pile (shaggy) or flat weave can be used.
