Using Wallpaper in Bathrooms: Is It Possible?

Traditionally, bathroom decoration has been identified with ceramic tiles. Today, however, specially designed moisture- and steam-resistant wallpapers are radically changing this understanding.

Suitable Product Conditions

Wallpaper chosen for a bathroom must be water-resistant, washable and contain a fungicide (anti-mould agent). Double-layer vinyl-based products meet these criteria.

Where Can It Be Applied?

Rather than areas close to the shower and bathtub, walls without direct water contact should be preferred. Areas such as far walls, shelf spaces and behind the door can be covered safely.

Moisture Management

Applying a waterproofing primer to the wall surface before hanging the paper provides extra protection. Adequate bathroom ventilation also directly affects how long the paper lasts.

Alternative: Waterproof Panel Systems

For fully water-exposed areas, special PVC or FRP (fibreglass) panel systems offer complete protection against water in a wallpaper-like appearance. These products can be applied to all bathroom surfaces.
