Veneziano Plaster Application Guide
Veneziano Plaster: Step-by-Step Application
Veneziano is a classic Italian decorative plaster technique inspired by 15th-century Venetian buildings. Through multiple thin layers and polishing, a finish close to real marble is achieved.
Material List
- Veneziano-based plaster (lime + marble dust)
- Pigment colour
- Stainless steel spatula set
- Sandpaper (180–220 grit)
- Soft brush
- Wax / polish
Layer 1: Primer
Diluted primer is applied to seal the porous surface and provide adhesion. It is left to dry for 24 hours.
Layer 2: Base Plaster
A thin layer of plaster is spread with the spatula using the plumb method. During drying it is lightly pressed with the spatula to remove bubbles.
Layer 3: Texture
The second coat is applied thinner and in crossing directions. This layer creates the technique's characteristic sense of depth and movement.
Polishing
Before the final layer is fully dry (8–12 hours), roughness is lightly removed with sandpaper. Then a pressured polish is done with the steel spatula. Finally it is wiped with wax or mineral oil.
