Frequently Asked Questions
Do acoustic panels provide sound insulation?
No — and the two are often confused. Acoustic panels reduce echo INSIDE the room (sound absorption). They do not stop sound reaching your neighbour; that is a separate insulation job. The difference is clear in rooms where speech echoes and phone calls are hard to follow.
How much of the room needs covering?
Roughly 20-30% of the wall area is enough to reduce echo noticeably. There is no need to cover every wall; covering one of the two facing surfaces that speech bounces between is usually sufficient.
Where do they work best?
Open-plan offices, meeting rooms, home cinemas, studios, restaurants and echoing high-ceilinged living rooms. The effect is most striking in spaces without soft surfaces such as carpet and curtains.
Does fitting damage the wall?
Panels are usually screwed to timber battens or directly to the wall. If removed, screw holes remain and are closed with filler and paint. In rented offices we discuss this upfront.
Can they be fitted to plasterboard?
Yes. The fixing type matters on plasterboard; we use toggle or plasterboard anchors suited to the panel weight. With battens we align to the plasterboard studs.
Does the felt collect dust and how is it cleaned?
The felt surface does collect dust but is easy to clean: a soft vacuum brush once a month is enough. A damp cloth is not recommended, as felt absorbs moisture.
What is the fire rating?
It varies by product. Offices, hotels and public spaces require specific classes by regulation, and for such projects we supply certified products. In homes this is not required.
How is the price worked out?
By square metre, slat type and felt quality. Whether battens are needed also affects cost. After measuring we give an itemised written price.
Is it enough on its own for a home cinema?
For reducing echo, yes. But bass frequencies need corner traps; panels alone will not solve a bass problem. We assess the room and give a realistic recommendation.
Can they be fitted to the ceiling?
Yes, and ceiling application is effective in high, echoing spaces. Battens and proper fixings are essential for safety overhead.
Are panels cut to size?
Yes. We cut around sockets, switches, air-conditioning units and door casings, and put the layout to you for approval before cutting.
Can they be used in damp rooms?
We do not recommend them in directly damp areas such as bathrooms, as felt and timber are affected by moisture. In kitchens they can be used on walls away from the hob.
How long does installation take?
A single wall usually takes a day. With battens, or when covering a whole room, 2-3 days. We give exact days after measuring.
Can the slat colour and spacing be chosen?
Yes, there are different timber tones and slat spacings. Narrow spacing gives a denser texture and wider spacing a plainer look; samples can be seen at our showroom.
Can they be removed and moved from a rented office?
With batten fixing, panels can largely be removed without damage. Screw marks left on the wall need filling and painting. If a move is likely, we choose the fixing method accordingly.
