Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PVC and WPC panels?

PVC is fully plastic: light, inexpensive and completely water resistant. WPC is a blend of wood flour and plastic; its texture is closer to timber, and it is heavier and more solid. We suggest PVC for damp areas and WPC when appearance is the priority.

Can they be used in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes, this is their greatest strength. They are unaffected by water and moisture and will not swell. On surfaces taking direct water, such as inside a shower tray, ceramic is more appropriate, with panels used on the rest of the wall.

Does the wall need preparation?

If the wall is reasonably flat they go on directly — that is the panel's most practical quality. On an uneven wall we fit thin battens; otherwise a gap forms behind the panel and joints open up.

Can they go behind a hob?

We do not recommend them directly behind a hob; PVC is not indefinitely heat resistant and can deform over time. Glass or ceramic behind the hob with panels on the rest of the wall is a good combination.

Do they yellow over time?

On surfaces in long, direct sunlight, light colours can yellow slightly. In south-facing rooms with large windows we select products with higher UV resistance.

How are they cleaned?

Wipe with a damp cloth, using a mild detergent if needed. Abrasive sponges and solvents such as thinner scratch the surface and are not recommended.

How is the price worked out?

By square metre, panel thickness and whether you choose PVC or WPC. Battens are added if required. After measuring we produce an itemised written price.

How long does fitting take?

On a prepared wall a single surface usually takes a day. With battens, or for a whole room, two days. As there is no demolition or dust, the space can be used the same day.

Can they be removed in a rented home?

Yes, as fitting uses adhesive and concealed screws. Adhesive marks remain on the wall and need filling and painting.

Can they be fitted over plasterboard?

Yes, plasterboard is a suitable substrate. We choose anchors to suit the panel weight and align to the studs when using battens.

Will the joints show?

Panels join with an interlocking system; with accurate cutting and alignment the joint is all but invisible. We use matching trims at corners and edges.

Can panels be painted?

Usually not necessary, as panels come in their own colour. If painting is required, a primer suited to plastic surfaces is essential or the paint will not hold.

What about fire rating?

It varies by product; public spaces such as offices and hotels require certified products. For those projects we supply panels with a certified fire class.

Can mould form behind the panel?

Not if the wall is dry. But covering a wall that already draws moisture traps that moisture and creates a mould risk, so we resolve the source of the damp first.

Are they cut to size?

Yes. We cut around sockets, switches and door and window casings, and put the layout to you for approval before cutting.
