Can Glass Textile Wallcovering Be Painted?

Yes; glass textile is made to be painted. Once it is glued to the wall it is painted with water-based interior paint and takes its colour from that paint.

Which paint is used?

Water-based (dispersion) interior paints are suitable. At home a matt or silk-matt paint is enough. In places that are cleaned often, such as hospitals, kitchens and schools, washable paint systems that resist disinfectants are chosen; the washability of the wall comes from the paint.

How many coats are needed?

On raw glass textile the first coat saturates the texture and the second gives the colour, so two coats are needed. Products pre-primed with white pigment at the factory use less paint. According to the manufacturer, one coat is enough for light colours on the pre-pigmented SYSTEXX Active Reno 938.

How does sheen affect the texture?

Matt paint softens the texture and makes the wall look calm. Silk and gloss paints reflect light, so they bring the texture out; they are also easier to wipe.

How soon after gluing can it be painted?

Once the adhesive has dried completely. The time depends on the adhesive, temperature and humidity; follow the drying time in the manufacturer's data sheet. If it is painted too early, the seams may open.

Can glass textile be left unpainted?

It should not be. Paint seals the surface, keeps dirt out and gives the wallcovering its final look. You can see rolls and textures at ithalduvarkagit.com and request a survey for our glass textile application service, which covers both gluing and painting.
