Does Glass Textile Wallcovering Hide Cracks?
Yes. Glass textile both covers hairline cracks and stops them reappearing, because it forms a continuous reinforcing layer over the wall. It does not hide structural cracks; their cause has to be dealt with first.
Why does it work?
Paint on its own does not stretch; when the plaster underneath moves, the crack shows in the paint too. Glass yarns are very strong in tension and, together with the adhesive, hold the plaster like a mesh. The SYSTEXX catalogue describes this as "crack-reinforcing and crack-bridging", class A1.
Which cracks does it solve?
- Fine shrinkage cracks that form as plaster dries
- Lines that open at plasterboard joints
- Cobweb-like crazing on old painted walls
Which cracks is it not enough for?
Cracks that widen over time, run diagonally, follow columns and beams or appear together with damp may point to a structural problem. They should not be covered over but shown to a specialist.
Does it also even out a rough wall?
Partly. According to the catalogue, SYSTEXX Active Reno 938 visually evens out unevenness and trowel marks of up to 2 mm and can be applied over textured plaster or filled tiles. Deeper defects are filled first. During the survey Erdağ Yapı examines the wall and recommends the right product for glass textile application.
