What Is Glass Textile and Where Is It Used?
Glass textile is a wall and ceiling covering woven from glass yarns that is glued to the wall and then painted. It reinforces the wall, covers hairline cracks and can be repainted many times, which is why it is preferred in heavily used buildings.
What kind of material is it?
Glass yarns and filaments are woven like fabric into textures such as herringbone, basket weave and diamond, or made as a smooth, untextured glass fleece. Rolls are usually 1 m wide and 25 or 50 m long, with no pattern match.
Properties
According to the SYSTEXX catalogue of the manufacturer Vitrulan, glass textile:
- is flame-retardant (almost all products are class B-s1, d0),
- resists impact, abrasion and puncture,
- is permeable to water vapour, so the wall can breathe,
- can be washed and disinfected when painted with a suitable paint,
- can be repainted 10 to 15 times.
Where is it used?
Hospitals, schools, hotels, offices, corridors of residential complexes and stairwells are the most common places. At home it is a good solution for hallways, children's rooms and walls with a cracking problem.
Are glass textile and glass fibre wallcovering the same thing?
Yes; glass fibre wallcovering, glass fibre wallpaper and glass textile are different names for the same product. See ithalduvarkagit.com for rolls and our glass textile application page for installation.
