What Should I Check When Taking Over a Finished Renovation?
Take over the job in daylight, room by room, comparing it with the items in the quote. Look at the walls with light falling from the side, open and close doors and drawers, run the taps and put any defects on a written list. The final payment is made once that list is closed.
Handover checklist
- Walls and ceilings: ripples, roller marks, differences in shade; corners and ceiling junctions.
- Wallpaper: seams, pattern match, bubbles, cuts around sockets.
- Floors: hollows, creaks, skirting and threshold junctions.
- Doors and windows: smooth opening and closing, locks, seals, paint marks.
- Wet rooms: water flow, drains, the silicone line and leaks to the floor below.
- Electrics: every socket, switch and light is tried one by one.
How to keep a snagging list
Photograph every defect, put them on one list and write the completion date together. A defect mentioned only in conversation is forgotten.
Four things to ask for at handover
- A written workmanship guarantee
- Colour codes and product names of the paints used
- Leftover paint, and spare wallpaper and flooring
- Cleaning and care advice
What if a defect appears later?
Report defects that show in the first weeks, such as an opening seam, a hairline crack or a door needing adjustment, without delay and with a photo.
Why is the quote needed at handover too?
Because it is the only written record of what was to be done. Erdağ Yapı hands over its work with a written quote and a written workmanship guarantee; details are on our apartment renovation page.
