What Should You Consider Before Starting an Office Renovation?

Before an office renovation starts, six things need to be settled: the building management's rules, the layout, power and data needs, acoustics, the working schedule and a written quote. A job that starts without them is a job that stops halfway.

Six points of preparation

  1. Building rules: working hours, goods lift, rubble removal and the permissions needed from management.
  2. Layout: how many people, how many meeting rooms, open plan or closed offices?
  3. Power and data: sockets and lines per desk; they are run before the partitions are closed.
  4. Acoustics: sound-absorbing ceilings and panels for meeting rooms and open plan are planned from the start.
  5. Schedule: will the work be done in office hours, or in the evenings and at weekends?
  6. Written quote: items of work, materials, time and price are listed one by one.

What to check in a rented office

Check the lease for the alterations you are allowed to make and for any obligation to reinstate on leaving. The landlord's and management's approval must be obtained before work starts.

Can the structure and the fire system be touched?

No. Columns and beams are not altered; sprinkler and fire-detection lines are moved only by the authorised contractor.

How long does it take?

In Erdağ Yapı projects small refurbishments take a few days and a full-floor renovation 2 to 4 weeks. The survey is free; details are on our office renovation page.
