Why Is Italian Paint More Expensive Than Standard Paint?
Italian paint costs more than standard paint because most of the price is hand labour, not material: the wall is first made flawless, then the product is worked on coat by coat with a trowel. A wall that a roller covers quickly takes days of work with a decorative finish.
Four things that make up the price
- Surface preparation: filler, sanding and a primer specific to the technique. Small flaws that plain paint hides stay visible here.
- Material: products based on lime, marble powder and mineral fillers cost more than emulsion paint, and more material goes on each square metre.
- Number of coats: two to four coats depending on the technique, with drying time between them.
- Skill: the texture is made by hand; the same product looks different in different hands.
Is the difference from standard paint only visual?
No. Plain paint is a thin film of colour; a decorative finish leaves a textured mineral layer on the wall. That is where the depth that changes with the light comes from.
How can the cost be lowered?
Do one feature wall rather than the whole house: the TV wall in the living room, the wall facing the entrance, or the wall behind the bed. The effect shows best on a flat wall that catches the light.
Why is the price given after a survey?
Because the condition of the wall, the chosen technique and the area change the labour directly. During the survey Erdağ Yapı examines the wall, shows samples and sets the price accordingly. Details are on our decorative paint page.
