Should Wiring and Plumbing Be Checked Before Walls Are Renewed?

Should Wiring and Plumbing Be Checked Before Walls Are Renewed?

Yes, always. Wiring and water pipes run inside the walls; every channel cut after painting or wallpapering spoils finished work, and the same wall is paid for twice.

What is checked in the electrics?

  • Position and number of sockets and switches: do they fit the furniture plan?
  • Condition of cables and fuse box, earthing, residual-current device.
  • Lighting points: new outlets for wall lights, spots and pendants.
  • Empty conduits and lines for internet, TV and air conditioning.

What is checked in the plumbing?

  • Pressure test and leak check on the supply pipes.
  • Whether the valves work; the fall of the waste pipes and any blockage.
  • Condition of old pipes buried in bathroom and kitchen walls.

The right order

  1. Checking the services and marking new points
  2. Cutting channels, laying pipes and cables
  3. Testing: water is held under pressure, circuits are measured
  4. Closing the channels, plaster and filler
  5. Paint, wallpaper or decorative finish

If the services are new, should they still be looked at?

Yes; at least review the socket positions against the furniture plan. A single socket added after wallpapering can mean replacing a whole strip. Erdağ Yapı plans services and wall finishes with one team.
