Is It Possible to Live at Home During a Renovation?

For small and medium-sized jobs, yes; you can live at home during painting, wallpapering and the renovation of a single room. For a major renovation that includes demolition, services and new flooring, moving out is advised because of dust and safety.

When can you stay and when not?

  • You can stay: painting, wallpaper, decorative paint, flooring in one room, replacing doors.
  • It gets difficult: renovating the kitchen or the only bathroom; water and cooker are out of use for days.
  • You should not stay: complete rewiring and replumbing, demolition, screeding and new floors throughout.

If you stay, this is how it is organised

  1. Work goes room by room; a new room is not started until the finished one is handed back.
  2. The working area is sealed off with plastic sheeting; floors and furniture are covered.
  3. One bathroom and one water point are always kept in working order.
  4. You are told in advance when water and electricity will be off.

Who is it not suitable for?

For families with babies, people with asthma or allergies and those who work from home, staying elsewhere during the dusty stages is healthier.

Can the furniture stay in the home?

Yes; it is gathered in one room and covered, and that room is left until last. During the survey Erdağ Yapı tells you plainly whether you can stay, depending on the scope; details are on our apartment renovation page.
